New Blog Post: How I Keep My Home Directory Clean

"I am one of those people who likes to keep files organized and directories clean. Here's how I keep my home directory as free of cruft as possible."

@jbauer @r I realized that I said C++ and was wrong, but apparently forgot to correct myself when posting the link. XD

And that's why I posted the link. Sources are always good. They let you know when you're wrong. And it's okay to be wrong. Nobody can be right all the time and the important thing is you learn. Society needs to be better about teaching that, TBH. :)

I like FOSS and a lot off FOSS ideals, but I don't particularly like the community that tends to evolve around FOSS projects. In my experience, they tend to be aggressively pragmatic and petulant at the expense of the voices of people who do not enjoy the relative privilege required to hold dearly to those ideals while struggling under the jackboot of capitalism.

It's not everyone or every project, but it's pervasive enough that if you are part of or are building a community within that ideosphere, you should probably put something in place in your dev process and community moderation practices that address it because, well, you're probably just not seeing it.

Hey folks, does anyone have good resources for hacking on Mastodon? Since I have to learn Ruby and Rails for my work anyway, I figured I may as well see if I can get some PRs made up for features I think we need to see in this software

I've found that if I sit down and write out a list of stuff to do at the start of the day then I normally have a much better day than if I don't.

I think the bullet journal people are onto something tbh

New Blog Post: My First CTF

"Today I completed my first ever CTF. It was long but very, very fun and was a great learning experience."

Just finished my first CTF. It was from 10:00-22:00 and only somewhat kicked my butt!

My team (which ended up just being me and a friend cause the other two people didn't show up 😦 ) placed 7th out of 50. We even held 3rd for a bit halfway through.

New T420s trackpad sticker! Also I don't understand why design language like this doesn't exist anymore. The laptop looks really good.

New Blog Post: Use Syncthing to Sync Things

"During this round of reinstalling the operating systems on all of my computers, I wanted a more convenient way to transfer and share files between them. I chose Syncthing and have been loving it."

I'm so glad that I work with a group of people who:

1. Despise long meetings
2. Mute if they're not talking
3. Don't require a camera to be on (I don't even own a webcam!)

Microsoft is so insidious... they're worming their way into every major language community and are doing their absolute best to ingratiate themselves with the FOSS community while they continue to destroy computing for consumers

Just want to give a shout-out to Audacity, which as far as I'm concerned is the open source creative tool that actually achieves the promise of open source creative tools. It gets significantly better every release and releases every few months, and the UI gets better and better (the key thing most open source tools don't achieve). If you tried Audacity a few years ago or more and decided it was unstable or clunky to use, download the latest version. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Huh... the last time I went proper grocery shopping was on the first of June. That last shop lasted me a while...
